Bridge Typogram

Tension… compression… suspension! To cross the looming chasm, and span peaks topographic, this splendid suspended structure is erected typographic. Towers, stacked into the sky, suspend a cambered deck. Anticipating load deflection – enabling triumphant trek.

Take pause, crosser on the central span. Contemplate the work of man. The biggest obstacles to face can be vaulted o'er with grace. Stand upon a sound foundation, perspective elevate and stay. Transcend the physical separation with a technically tensile touché. Epic journey through the fog, mystical walk o'er the water – more than merely transitory, the story is a teaching. Bridge Typogram by Aaron Kuehn – An anatomical diagram of a suspension bridge, composed of only the names of its parts, and using traditional styled typography

The suspension bridge is a meditation on balance, connection, and integrity. Compression & tension are darkness & light. These dynamic oppositional forces are balanced through webs of truss & cable. The crushing loads are not resisted, but wisely passed along, like water flowing around the towers' feet.

Atop the tall towers – saddled in the coded glow of the beacon lights – steel stranded main cables descend in catenary arcs. From the main cables, suspenders hang, cradling the spindly deck. A suspension bridge crosses spans beyond all other, beam, arch or cantilever. Carefully constructed from principally iron, it's principled integrity is at balance with environs.
